Puppy Families! Plan your pick-up date and time now.
You will receive a packet including AKC registration forms, vet records, and other helpful goodies to set you up for success! If you need to arrange a special daye and time for pick-up let me know, otherwise dates and times will be Friday, August 29 - Sunday, August 31.
Your puppy will have his/her first set of vaccinations on August 21st. 1st vaccines must be boosted so the time to call your veterinarian to schedule a new puppy exam and age-appropriate booster shots is now. If you do not have a veterinarian, please do your research and call to establish a pet healtcare home immediately. Some veterinary practices are closed to new patients, and others have lengthy wait times for patient appointments.
We will send you home with a starter bag of the puppy food your new puppy is used to. You may decide to stick with that brand or switch. A gradual transition is best. Do not change your puppy’s feed or feeding schedule abruptly. Abrupt changes in diet can upset your puppy’s delicate digestive system.
We use Blue Buffalo Puppy Lamb & Oatmeal dry food. We have tried other brands. This works for our Goldens.
Think your puppy has the face of an angel? They do, but they will get into things they shouldn't. The time to puppy proof your home is before you bring your puppy home. Electrical cords and outlets are extremely dangerous to a puppy. Certain plants, foods, and cleaning supplies can cause harm too. Read up! Your AKC packet will guide you on how to plan to keep your puppy safe.
Never let your puppy out of sight! Goldens are endlessly curious and will wander. Your new puppy and eventually adolescent will go on adventures. You do not want to lose your dog or have them hurt or even killed by car, another dog, livestock, or other means. Fence your yard if it is not already fenced, keep them leashed when you are out hiking or walking around, and be smart about keeping your pup safe from harm. The nose will lead them astray even if they love you. We know. Trust us, we know. It is imperative that you teach your puppy RECALL. It could save his or her life.
Golden Retrievers are easy to train. If you have heard that, rest assured it is true! With consistency and reward, your Golden will grow up to be the best boy or girl. It starts with a fun and simple obedience class. The puppy classes offer training, socialization, and a chance to talk with other puppy owners about what is working (or not), and share tips and tricks to ensure your puppy becomes an awesome dog. Have fun with it! Your Golden will be the center of attention, guaranteed.
